EV Charging Site Assessment & Electrical Load Study

Before any charger goes in the ground, the electrical infrastructure has to support it.

OVERVIEW

Know Before You Build

Before any commercial EV charging project begins, the electrical infrastructure has to be evaluated. Installing chargers without a load study is a common and expensive mistake — panel upgrades discovered mid-project add cost and delay, and incentive applications submitted without load documentation are routinely rejected.

Our site assessment gives you the facts: your available electrical capacity, optimal charger locations, conduit pathway options, and a written report you can use for contractor bidding and SCE Charge Ready pre-applications. Most property managers find that the assessment pays for itself by eliminating surprises before they become expensive.

IS THIS RIGHT FOR YOU?

You're planning to add EV charging

You know you need chargers but haven't decided on type, quantity, or timeline. The assessment gives you the electrical facts before you commit.

You're applying for SCE Charge Ready

SCE Charge Ready requires a load study as part of the pre-application. Our report is formatted to satisfy that requirement.

You're not sure if your panel can handle it

Older buildings frequently have limited panel headroom. The assessment tells you what you have and what your options are — before any money is spent on equipment.

SCOPE

What We Inspect — What You Receive

What We Inspect

  • Existing electrical panel — size, capacity, available breaker space
  • Utility service type and size — SCE territory, service entry, transformer access
  • Current electrical load and demand patterns
  • Available conduit pathways and trench routes through the parking area
  • Parking layout — charger location options, accessibility, signage requirements

What You Receive

  • Written site assessment report (PDF)
  • Load calculation documentation
  • Capacity headroom analysis — available kW for EV charging
  • Recommended charger count, type, and placement
  • Incentive eligibility checklist (SCE, CALeVIP, 30C)
  • 30-minute debrief call with your project contact
HOW IT WORKS

From Request to Report in Under 2 Weeks

01

Schedule the site visit

We confirm a time that works for your property manager or facilities contact — typically within 5–7 business days of inquiry.

1–2 hours at your property. We inspect the panel, walk the parking area, and document all relevant electrical and site conditions.

03

Written report delivered

Within 3–5 business days of the site visit, you receive the full assessment report — load study, capacity analysis, charger recommendations, and incentive checklist.

04

Debrief call

30 minutes to walk through the findings, answer questions, and discuss recommended next steps. No commitment required.

CALIFORNIA INCENTIVES

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common Questions About Site Assessment

Our site assessment covers: an on-site inspection of your existing electrical panel (size, available capacity, breaker space, physical condition); a load calculation documenting your current electrical demand and available headroom; an evaluation of your utility service (SCE territory confirmation, existing service size, upgrade feasibility); a parking layout review identifying optimal charger locations, conduit pathways, and trenching requirements; and a written assessment report with our findings and recommended next steps. The report can be used for SCE Charge Ready pre-applications and contractor bidding.

Contact us for current pricing. The fee depends on property size and scope. For properties that move forward with a Gorgen installation contract, the site assessment fee is credited toward the project cost.

The on-site visit typically takes 1–2 hours depending on property size and electrical system complexity. The written report is delivered within 3–5 business days of the site visit. We then schedule a 30-minute debrief call to walk through findings and recommended next steps — no additional charge.

This is one of the most common findings at commercial properties — especially older buildings where panel capacity was sized before EV demand existed. If your existing service is insufficient, the report will document the shortfall and outline options: a panel upgrade, a load management strategy that maximizes ports within current capacity, a phased deployment that stays within limits, or a utility service upgrade with SCE. None of these findings are dead ends — they're the information you need to make a good decision.

Yes. SCE Charge Ready requires a load study as part of the pre-application documentation to confirm that the proposed EV charging system is sized appropriately for your electrical service. Our site assessment report includes a load study formatted to meet SCE Charge Ready documentation requirements. If you're planning to apply for Charge Ready, the site assessment is the right first step.

A physical site visit is required for an accurate assessment. Electrical panel specifications, physical panel condition, available conduit pathways, and parking layout cannot be reliably evaluated from drawings or photos alone. We send a qualified technician to your property — the visit is typically 1–2 hours and causes no disruption to tenants or operations.
